Like the exoskeleton of a once living crustacean, ancient architectural structures are seen as story telling relics of times gone by. Historically, Rome is considered to be heart of modern day civilization and the Italian artist Giovanni Piranesi is credited as being one of masters of depicting “vivid scenes” of this eternal city. Depictions of these once great civilizations stood as a warning to new emerging empires through the work of artists like the French painter Hubert Robert who depicted his thriving city of Paris and the Louvre Gallery in ruins.
