Architectural artwork first emerged as a separate genre of Western art in the 16th century in Flanders and the Netherlands. The earliest well-known architectural artist was Hans Vredeman de Vries who was both an architect and a painter. Architecture is a popular subject of art for painters, photographers, illustrators and sculptors. Modern architectural artists include Colin Campbell Cooper and Eugeniusz Molski. Architectural art is particularly popular in commercial interior decorating.
